December 18, 2012

Today was the day I had been waiting for, or rather, we, had been waiting for. After months of planning and “preparation,” it was time to take THE TEST. I told Bryan I would wait a few days longer, as my hopes had been dashed in previous months, but when I woke up that morning I knew I wouldn’t be able to take the anticipation for much longer. What I saw at the end of two minutes was not very clear and definitive. Since I had some time before I had to get ready for work, I went back to bed and laid in the dark, staring at the ceiling and trying to make sense of what I had seen. It definitely looked like a “+”, but the telling line was slightly more faded than what would be just the negative sign.

So, when it was time to get ready for work, I went to the bathroom and stared some more at the test left lying on the counter. I took a picture with my phone. I threw the pee stick away. At that point, I was pretty convinced it really wasn’t anything to get excited about and I would try again tomorrow if there weren’t any other developments that day. But I wasn’t 100% convinced. So I stood over the bed on the side Bryan was still sleeping on. And I stared at him until my burning gaze woke him up. “I have something to show you.” “What is it?” I showed him the picture. And he looked, and he looked. No words. Then simply “I don’t know.” So we left it at that and went about our day (this just happened to be the one and only day this winter that snow fell from the sky...pretty cool!)

Finally, at work, I couldn’t take it anymore. I showed my co-teacher the picture. She had been pregnant before, and informed me that, yes, that did look like a positive. I texted the picture to my sister in Texas, who clearly, without a doubt, texted back “You are pregnant!” I couldn’t believe it. I needed BIG.BOLD.WORDS. So that night I went to Safeway to pick up bread for my mom and a pregnancy test for me. When both Bryan and I were at home that night, I took the Clear Blue Digital test. Before two minutes were even up, the words “Pregnant” came back at me. It was official. We were having a baby!

Bryan texted the picture to his best friend right away, and I texted my sister and co-teacher to let them both know they were right :-). We had some grocery shopping to do that night, so we stopped at Subway for dinner before going on to the store. We were both so excited it was all we could think and talk about! Above is a picture of the first onesie we bought for the baby :-).
